i decided to look into Dadaism, and found great art work by Raoul Hausmann. He had some great sound poems too which were pretty cool and i loved the collage of madness with typical images relating to the time.
i loved how it was his take on the war that was going on at the time and in one of the paintings he encompasses the word 'voice'. i loved it - i wanted to see how exactly "we voice" our opinions.
i guess you can say we do to a certain extent have freedom of speech, and it is something that has been granted in this part of the world within reason. But in certain parts of the world there is that underlining censorship and people cannot voice their opinion.Facebook is something that can be used as a tool for voice and
this was my take on evaluating the freedom of speech how we have the freedom to speak and when we do we speak about "person being a for taking my top" or " i'm having beans on toast" which is fine, but i do wonder if the people that cant have their 'minds' voiced what their facebook status would say?
This was a photomontage by Raoul Hausmann, you're loving it arent you? i really liked the prominance of face surrounded by collage of objects and text.
Tell you who else i'm loving, Robert Rauschenberg. Love the decaying nature of his subject and the black against the softer shade of colour in the background.
Yeeep.
Next comes my favourite - this dude is uber cool - he makes samples of video and makes a great beat out of it or as he puts it "sample madness - i think that quote madness and genius should come here....amazing.
So he was a huge influence on my project - gotta say he did a wayy better one with Chris Cunningham.
(CC and Eboman - can it really get any better??)
so i cant load the video but the link is here:

wanna see my version?
i'm only reluctant cos i have not one musical bone in my body apart from my ears appreciating damn good music but my experiments were jus wrong.... wrroong...
Lasse Gjertsen (from the article in my passport magazine) did a similar one - another genius! it took me AGES to realise how they actually did...yea not so genius after all, just bluddy clever.
ok so the idea behind these influences, was basically showing the decaying nature of society and how miserable we really are and in doing so i put a censorship on the status i think are pointless and frankly annoying. i'm showing you people, the mad nature of people by juxtaposing their mad opinion ... not nice really is it? hah.
Next i looked into Rapture.

I'm really thinking of ripping this off? Don't you love the japanese anime.
and of course http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SNHtKfDxlg
like anybody can ever tire of this.... really...
But it influenced me in that i wanted to create a similar theme of war. We unfortunately are living in war times and i think it would be unjust for myself to not express the politics and voice those peoples opinion. (whether i can in a non judging manner is another thing).
But i wanted to focus on why and how we are understanding the past and our future. Do we have a future? Greed and the education of life, these are factors i want to incorporate but i hate that, judging factor so im working on the idea of football players and aeroplanes. OK just kidding, something similar though.
..............................................................................................................................................................
So, experimenting and incorporating all the research i have undertaken i came up with this. (It makes sense to go for animation since its something i want to enhance from last year and ideally make a magazine of images. But i thought through facebook and its meaning and why it ever came about - did you know"The original concept for Facebook was borrowed from a product produced by Zuckerberg's prep schoolPhillips Exeter Academy which for decades published and distributed a printed manual of all students and faculty, unofficially called the "face book".
It got me thinking on badges not the safety pin ones but these ones:
They look militant too. Imagine school children in

aeroplanes (primal scream xtrmrntr)
innocent and naive like our soldiers maybe... hmm
Anyway i came across this book too and its called "The Museum of Kitschy Stitches" A gallery of Notorious Knits... so i cant knit but they gave some great colours and ideas on to how i would go about it.
i also used the typical american university font - you know the one, on their uni hoodies, sorry "collage hoodies"
(its university for petes sake)
Check it out:
Aw its such a shame the whole image wont load - i'll try again later when i have more patience with this blog...
